Early Pregnancy
Early pregnancy assessment and care [EPAC]When should you report to us for EPAC?
If you are in the first 3 months of pregnancy and experience any of the following problems:
- Bleeding: This may be light spotting, brownish discharge, passage of blood or clots.
- Cramps in your tummy, backache, dragging sensation in your tummy
- Excessive nausea or vomiting
- Vaginal discharge
- Fever with rashes
- Fainting attack
What do we do for EPAC?
You will be assessed in detail including review of your medical history, examination and investigations. You may be tested for blood or urine and an ultrasound scan will be arranged for you.
Why do some women have bleeding in the first three months of pregnancy?
In some cases, early pregnancy bleeding might be innocuous while in other instances it may be the first signal of miscarriage or impending miscarriage. Many a time, the pregnancy is so early that it may not be possible to tell at scan whether the pregnancy is continuing or will do so. It is important to remember that the baby’s heart begins to beat only when you are six or seven weeks after your last period. In this case, you may be scanned again after a few days.
