Normal delivery

Also known as vaginal birth, it refers to the process of birth of baby through the vaginal route with minimal intervention. Having a vaginal birth is highly beneficial for both mother and baby. It decreases the anaesthetic and operative risks associated with cesarean birth, ensures an early discharge from the hospital and quicker recovery for mother. Breastfeeding initiation and maintenance is earlier and more sustained.
Due to its benefits, we try for vaginal birth in all women who are good candidates for the same.

How soon will I recover after normal delivery?

Most of the time, you will be be able to recover amazingly early. Your hospital stay will usually be upto 48 hours after birth. You may experience some vaginal soreness especially if you have had a surgical cut down below to enlarge the opening of your vagina. We will give you pain killers which are safe during breastfeeding till you are pain free. Your breasts will become enlarged and sore due to filling of milk. This ensures you are able to breastfeed your baby. Our lactation consultants will help you with the intricacies of breastfeeding. You may some difficulty in peeing for a few days after delivery due to swelling of tissues around your urethra and bladder. With proper perineal care, adequate hydration and nutrition, your tissues should heal fast. We can always help you with a top-up of pain killers if needed. You will have a vaginal discharge called lochia, which can persist for upto 8 weeks after delivery
